Lync and IIS ARR (Application Routing Request)

Hi all,

Glad to see many has found my blog and that is why it’s nice to share things 🙂

Yesterday I installed an reverse proxy with IIS AAR 3.0 on Windows Server 2012 R2.
Word of advice on this is that dont do it!

I couldn’t get it to work. Instead when I installed AAR 2.5 + the hotfix everything worked like a charm.

The setup is identical with 2.5 and 3.0, don’t worry. The biggest deal is publishing lyncdiscover.domain.com externally. Based on the mobile logs I found that reverse proxy wont pass all information on webtickets to the mobile client and that is why they wont sign-in.

So download IIS AAR 2.5: http://www.microsoft.com/web/gallery/install.aspx?appid=ARRv2_5

And the hotfix depending on operating systems version.

Hotfix for IIS7: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=27121
And for IIS 8: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35827

I wont be making instructions how to configure it, because the are so many out there.

It’s not a perfect add-on, but it’s so much easier than UAG or TMG ever were 🙂
